There is a basic misunderstanding about social media among many, to wit, it’s designed to for us. It isn’t. It’s designed to gather information about us quickly, effectively and cheaply. It’s self-surveillance on a grand scale. We’re data points.

It will show us any reflection of ourselves, including the worst, because it feeds on dissatisfaction. Breaking away from social media is an act of self-respect and self-protection.
