Packing

Anxiety as predictable as the

Check-in reminder email.

Each anticipated journey

Heralded by panicked

Split-screen mental reels of

Spiralling planes, cars

Levitating to smash like

Melons on unyielding

Concrete. My cats confused,

Pet-sitters renouncing responsibility.

Student loan office demanding

Payment from next of kin.

Fuddled brain refuses to

Count so I

Throw globs of socks and

Underwear, enough surely.

Almost buckling, I flee the

House. Drug-like

Euphoria lifts, drains fear.

Giddy, blank-minded, free

At last. Turn up the music as I

Burn towards the airport.
