Blocking out distraction free time is a great tip, but sometimes can be hard to achieve. One of my weaknesses is popping onto Twitter or Google to look up something then falling down the rabbit hole. When this happens during a “work block” instead of giving up and beating myself up about it I glance at my clock and give myself till the next round number (10 past, half past, etc) to browse. Then when that digit turns over I get back to work. It means that while my work chunks aren’t always perfect, I get 85–95% work done, instead of flaking halfway through.
